82, former U.S. Marine, founder and president of Lancaster Meals on Wheels

John G. Stover, Sr. 82, of Lititz, passed away Monday, Dec. 23, 2013 at his home.

He was the loving husband of Miriam G. (Reidenbaugh) Stover with whom he recently celebrated 61 years of marriage. Born in Harrisburg, he was the son of the late Charles D. and Amelia A. (Fair) Stover

He worked for Armstrong World Industries for 43 years and also worked 17 years at the Manheim Auto Auction.

He proudly served in the U.S. Marines from 1950 to 1954.

John was very active in community and church service. He was a founder and past president of Lancaster Meals on Wheels. He was the recipient of the Benjamin Rush Award, the Conestoga Sertoma Mankind Award, and the Man of the Year and past chaplain for Marine Corp League, Lancaster. He also participated in Toys for Tots. John was a member of the Lancaster County Council of Churches and Luther Acres Board Member and was a Boy Scout Leader for Troop 11.

He was a member of Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd.

John was a gentle man, loved to tell stories and loved to treat his grandchildren and great grandchildren to ice cream. He was an avid golfer and took pride in his outdoor flowers.

In addition to his wife he is survived by son: John, Jr. and daughter: Robin Jacks. Also, his granddaughter: Danielle Sternberg, husband Zachary and granddaughter: Brittany Morales, husband Joseph. He was preceded in death by his granddaughter: Kelly Stover. He has five great-grandchildren: Anya and Naomi Sternberg, Sarina and Marley Morales and George Rosado.

A funeral service was held at the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, Lancaster, Dec. 27 with Rev. Mark L. Russell officiating. Interment was in Riverview Burial Park.
