Paul Hayden
On Monday, Jan. 20, 2014, Paul B. Hayden, retired paralegal of the Washington Gas Light Company and now residing in Lititz, went peacefully to be with the Lord.
Born Nov. 18, 1940, Paul grew up in Washington, D.C. in St. Joseph Home for the Boys and later was adopted by Jack and Dorothy Hayden in 1956 after they had fostered him for four years. He was a graduate of Bishop McNamara High School and Southeastern University. He married Linda Hayden in 1970 and was a beloved father to his four children: Kimberly Hayden Williams of Columbia, Md.; Tara Godwin of Tampa, Fla.; Jonathan Hayden of Columbia, Md. and Robert Hayden of Washington, D.C. He also had great joy in seeing his nine grandchildren: Corey and Chelsey Godwin, Bobby and Nathaniel Hayden, Karter and Avery Hayden, and Keagan, Landon, and Brayden Williams.
From 1963-1981, he worked for the Archdiocese of Washington Catholic Youth Organization (CYO). He was a dedicated coach, teacher/principal, motivational speaker, and mentor to many young men and women throughout his life. In 1981, he became a paralegal for the Washington Gas Company where he retired after 25 years of service and moved to Lititz, with Ron Patsy, who has been his caregiver for 19 years.
After becoming a member of AA in 1989, he has been speaking and carrying the message. Many have seen him as a counselor, confidant, and sponsor and all-around good, caring man who always showed self-sacrifice, wisdom, commitment, respect, and humor. He gave of himself to everyone he met. Since moving to Lititz, he has been an active member of the 521 Club and formed many loving and caring friendships.
A Mass was held at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, Lancaster, Jan. 28. Inurnment followed at St. Joseph New Catholic Columbarium, Bausman.
